Duck Day privacy policy
Effective date: 9 September 2026
Duck Day is a free app from Grossard Education Pty Ltd that tells schools
whether the weather will disrupt break times. This policy explains what data
the app accesses and how it is handled.
What we collect
- School location. You choose a location by searching for a town, postcode or school, or by using your device's approximate location once. The chosen coordinates are stored locally on your device. Searches use the geocoding service provided by your device.
- Weather requests. Your chosen coordinates are sent to Tudio, a Grossard Education service, to fetch forecasts based on Google Weather data. If Tudio is unavailable, the app requests forecasts directly from the Google Weather API. These requests do not include your school name or break timetable.
- Other Grossard products. The app downloads recommendations for Grossard Education products from grossard.com.au. When a recommendation is shown, tapped or dismissed, the app sends that action, the recommendation and product identifiers, its placement, the platform and the app version to Tudio. We use these events to understand how the recommendations are used. The event data does not include your school name, chosen coordinates or break timetable.
- Rain radar. When you open the radar, the app loads a Windy map using your chosen coordinates. Windy processes the web requests needed to display that map.
- Crash reports. The Android app uses Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes and measure app stability. Google receives crash traces, app and device information, installation identifiers and session information. The app does not attach your name, email, school name or break timetable to these reports.
- Network information. As with other internet services, the providers receiving these requests can see your IP address and request information, such as the app or browser version.
What we do not collect
- No account registration or contact details are required
- The app does not request pupil or student records
- No advertising identifiers
- No data sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes
Data storage
Your selected location, school name, break times and notification preferences
are stored on your device. Device backup may also include this data so it can
be restored on a new phone. The network requests described above are separate
from this local storage. You can remove the local app data through your
device's app settings.
Permissions
- Internet. Used for weather forecasts, radar, product recommendations, recommendation events and crash reporting.
- Location (approximate). Optional. Used once to find your school's town when you tap the locate button.
- Notifications. Optional. Used to send weather alerts before each break.
Children's privacy
Duck Day is designed for teachers and school staff, not for children. It does
not knowingly collect any data from children.
